What earning the certification represents

Earning the Academy's specialist certification means a clinician has passed interdisciplinary training and review built on consistent, verifiable standards, with evidence-based competence in dental sleep medicine: from sleep-medicine fundamentals and the assessment and design of oral appliances (OAT) to collaboration with ENT, pulmonology, neurology and sleep centers. The certification emphasizes deeper interdisciplinary expertise and a broader international perspective, so clinicians stay aligned with globally current practice and can provide more complete sleep care.

Purpose of certification

The certification uses consistent, verifiable standards to ensure clinicians providing oral sleep treatment have sufficient academic and clinical competence and are aligned with international sleep-medicine evidence, thereby improving overall treatment quality and patient safety.

Eligibility (pending Academy bylaws)

Expected to include: a Republic of China dentist qualification; Academy membership for a set period; completion of the Academy's designated foundation and core courses with a set number of hours; and submission of compliant clinical cases. Actual eligibility follows the Academy's latest published prospectus.

Selection method (pending confirmation)

Expected to comprise a written examination (sleep-medicine fundamentals, oral-appliance indications and design, interdisciplinary management principles) and case review / oral examination. Successful candidates are certified and renew via continuing-education credits.

The Academy will provide the public with a directory of clinicians certified by the Academy, searchable by city/county and clinic. The directory is being built.
